A popular bed and breakfast in Norwich was at the centre of a major road crash on Tuesday (1st February) after a lorry collided into the wall.

The emergency services attended the 4-star Arrandale Lodge on Earlham Road at approximately 11:00 GMT.

The police have said that one man believed to be the driver was taken to hospital, but nobody else was injured during the incident.

The owner of the B&B, Silver Morgan, said that the lorry missed the house by a few metres, and described the scene as “like something out of a disaster movie”.

Morgan said her husband witnessed the crash from their bedroom on the ground floor and described how the wheels of the lorry were still turning due to it being stuck in the debris.

The couple were temporarily evacuated due to fuel leakage from the lorry.

There were heavy traffic delays in the area as the incident happened just off the busy Five Ways roundabout in Earlham, which the police closed for several hours in order to deal with the collision.

Norfolk Police said several emergency services including ambulance and fire services had attended the scene, and Norfolk Fire Service confirmed that “Appliances from Earlham, Carrow and Sprowston attended a road traffic collision on Earlham Rd. The scene was made safe.”

It comes as data collected by the Department for Transport show that there was a total of 315 serious collisions on Norfolk roads in 2020 and 35 fatal incidents.
